El grupo de psiquiatría y neuropsiquiatría de INECO aborda patologías psiquiátricas y patologías neurológicas con secuelas conductuales. En la actualidad, existen varias líneas de investigación principales. Una de ellas se concentra en el estudio del trastorno por déficit de atención/hiperactividad (TDAH) en el adulto, campo en el cual el grupo de investigación de INECO a cargo de la misma es líder en Latinoamérica por sus aportes novedosos en cuanto a los aspectos cognitivos y conductuales de este cuadro. Otro de los grupos de investigación se concentra en las secuelas cognitivas y conductuales y la evolución de los síntomas tras la ocurrencia de accidentes cerebrovasculares y traumatismos de cráneo. En esta línea se ha desarrollado más recientemente el grupo de investigación a cargo de Terapia Ocupacional que evalúa calidad de vida, nivel de participación y la utilidad de programas de inserción laboral en pacientes con accidente cerebrovascular y traumatismo de cráneo. En la actualidad, el grupo se dedica también a investigar los cambios de personalidad en la variante conductual de la demencia frontotemporal. Más recientemente, se ha fortalecido la línea de investigación del síndrome de Asperger en niños y adultos, con especial énfasis en la caracterización del perfil ejecutivo y de cognición social de este cuadro. Miembros de INECO han publicado importantes investigaciones en los aspectos cognitivos y motores del trastorno bipolar.

Otros temas de investigación que actualmente se llevan a cabo en esta área en INECO son:

1. Aspectos cognitivos de los trastornos bipolares, la depresión severa y la esquizofrenia.
2. Representación de la enfermedad, adherencia farmacológica y temperamento en el trastorno bipolar
3. Caracterización de las cogniciones disfuncionales en el ADHD del adulto: Validación del modelo cognitivo-conductual
4. Impacto social y económico del Síndrome de Tourette (ST) y Tics Crónicos en personas adultas (en colaboración U. de Wisconsin)
5. Stress agudo y depresión
