| Research Programs INECO supports a series of strong research programs tackling basic neural mechanisms in humans (decision-making, emotional processing, autobiographical memory, and neurobiology of consciousness) and clinical research (cognitive and behavioral disorders). Our goal is to contribute to the development of efficient strategies in prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation of neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders. For this purpose, INECO features a research laboratory of international renown comprising a multidisciplinary group of neurologists, psychiatrists, psychologists, neuropsychologists, occupational therapists, speech pathologists, biologists, statisticians, and physicists. The research lab at INECO has strong collaborative bonds with top-notch centers around the world. Among the most important contributions of our research group is the identification of the brain areas related to decision-making in humans, the neural mechanisms of aggression, the role of the insula in cognitive and emotional processing, brain areas involved in the development of symptoms of the attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder, and the development of a neuropsychological battery to detect early frontotemporal dementia. As well, the group described, for the first time, emotional processing in patients with minimal conscious states.
